In consultation with the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, IIE is continuing an exciting new initiative begun in 2007, extending the international perspectives the Humphrey Fellowship Program brings to a broader range of institutions of higher education and their local communities.
Known as the Associate Campus Partnership, this initiative aims to create alliances between existing Humphrey host campuses and colleges, universities, or community colleges, especially those with significant minority populations or those in rural areas that serve students who may not have opportunities to work with international visitors such as the Humphrey Fellows. These alliances benefit both institutions, as well as offer Humphrey Fellows opportunities to engage with faculty, students, and Americans beyond those of their host campuses.
During this first year of the initiative, two Humphrey campuses have partnered with associate campuses: Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. with Alfred State College in southwestern New York State, and the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, with Western Carolina University, a state school located in the Smoky Mountains of western North Carolina.
Applications for creating the Associate Partnerships will be sent out to all current Humphrey campuses in February of each year with a submission deadline of May 15 and a program start date of July. For more information, please contact the IIE office.
