The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program enhances leadership among international professionals who collaborate to address local and global challenges and foster change for our collective good.
Through academic study and professional development with U.S. counterparts, this growing global network shares best practices and builds expertise in fields of critical importance to advance societal and institutional capacity, promote human rights and freedoms, ensure sustainable environments, and develop thriving communities.

A Note of Condolence
The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program mourns the loss of program alumnus Tariq Thabet, who died in Gaza along with his immediate family this week.
Mr. Thabet was a Humphrey Fellow during the 2021-2022 academic year at Michigan State University, where he focused on Economic Development and Entrepreneurship.

I am very grateful for the flexibility and autonomy the program gives us. I took this opportunity to understand the dynamics of the philanthropic sector, the importance of grassroots movements, and funding led by the needs of the individuals and organizations. Having a chance to participate in daily operations, strategic networking, and decision-making in the field of social change and philanthropy at the Gifford Foundation was a meaningful professional affiliation experience. I have now decided to transition in my career and work to transform unequal social structures, particularly in participatory democracy. I came back to Brazil relying on the potential of local actions to bring about long-term outcomes, focusing on deep systemic change.

Our Alumni
I realized we had over 120 Humphrey Fellows from different fields and expertise. As President of the Humphrey Alumni Association in the Philippines, I try to bring alumni together to collaborate and try influence how policies are implemented in the country. It doesn't have to be anything significant because a change in a small town, national parliament, the Department of Justice, or a university would have an impact. I think that's what the Humphrey Fellowship is all about: not all of us may be in a position of national significance, but there is no big or small thing for a Humphrey Fellow. You do what you can with what you have and introduce change wherever possible.

Our Alumni
When I returned home in 2011, we convinced the government to appoint a committee and integrate a coastal zone policy. I chaired that committee, and what I learned from the U.S. regarding how to approach it is what I practiced back home.

Our Alumni
During my Humphrey Fellowship in the United States, I met with the presidents of the National Water Association and the American Water Works Association, general managers of water utilities, founders of NGOs dealing with the sustainable management of water resources, professionals in financing water and wastewater infrastructure, and decision-makers on investments in water and sewage infrastructure. Furthermore, I spent six weeks at the World Bank, where I worked on a proposal for a tariff policy for water in Montenegro.
