Enhancement Workshops Provide Cross-disciplinary Learning Experiences for Humphrey Fellows

Enhancement Workshops, which are offered to current Humphrey Fellows, provide opportunities for cross-disciplinary and multi-regional interchanges among Fellows and their US professional counterparts. These workshops give Fellows the chance to make professional site visits, meet and interact with senior professionals, increase their understanding on a particular topic, and develop professional contacts.

There are five Enhancement Workshops being offered in 2013. They are:

Strategic Negotiation Skills, conducted by Shanta Nagendram, SkillFocus Consultancy, Washington DC. The workshop will cover the scope, process, preparation and techniques of negotiations to equip participants with a tool-kit in order to negotiate more effectively.

International Innovation and Entrepreneurship, hosted by University of California, Davis Child Family Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Davis, CA. This workshop will provide Humphrey Fellows the opportunity to develop concrete, practical skills they need to better understand how to move an idea from thought to action.

Leadership Training in Times of Crisis, hosted by Syracuse University Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, Syracuse, NY. This workshop will provide current and emerging leaders with the dynamics and processes needed for leadership decision making in times of crisis, helping participants identify patterns of leadership that appear to be effective (or ineffective) in forecasting, preparing for, managing, communicating about and learning from crises.

Global Development and Social Justice, hosted by Emory University Rollins School of Public Health, Atlanta, GA. The purpose of this workshop is to explore current issues in global development and international social justice and human rights from the perspectives of professionals in the field.

Peacebuilding Through Restorative Dialogue, hosted by University of Minnesota School of Social Work, Minneapolis, MN. This five day workshop will provide Humphrey Fellows with a wide range of skills and approaches to more effectively deal with both everyday type of conflicts in workplaces and communities, as well as more intense, toxic, entrenched conflicts that are extremely costly and damaging if not addressed in effective and culturally appropriate manners.

In addition to these five Enhancement Workshops, the University of Washington is hosting Experience Seattle, which will allow Humphrey Fellows to conduct a number of professional site visits in the city.

Photos from the Enhancement Workshops and Experience Seattle will be posted on our Facebook page.
