To mark the 45th anniversary of the Humphrey Fellowship Program, Humphrey alumni gathered across world regions to advance solutions to shared challenges and celebrate the positive impacts of Humphrey alumni in building an inclusive global society, championing good governance and human rights, and promoting sustainable livelihoods and thriving communities.

45th Anniversary Global Policy Series

Pristina, Kosovo

Humphrey Fellowship Program Alumni from Kosovo celebrated the program’s 45th anniversary by participating in the Global Policy Series, organized by the United States-Kosovo Educational Exchange Board (USKEB). Alyson Grunder, the Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Kosovo, Fulbright alumni, and other key stakeholders engaged in insightful discussions addressing Kosovo’s challenges and opportunities in Enhancing Economic and Human Capital Development, Sustainability, and Environmental Protection. The focal point of these discussions centered on pathways for economic development, emphasizing the alignment of multiple sectors with a cleaner and more environmentally conscious Kosovo.

New Delhi, India

Approximately 75 Humphrey alumni from all over India gathered for a Humphrey Alumni Global Policy Series in New Delhi to address global challenges in climate change, sustainable development, livelihood security, education and innovation, and women’s empowerment and gender equality. Participants heard from U.S. Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti, who applauded the work of Humphrey alumni and encouraged them to continue working together in areas of critical importance to India and the United States.  The series of panels featured alumni from multidisciplinary backgrounds and provided concrete opportunities for further collaboration.  Participants also conducted a community site visit at a rejuvenated body of water at Mahawad village of Uttar Pradesh, where they learned about the efforts to conserve biodiversity of the village and planted trees with schoolchildren around the pond. The visit provided the group with a better understanding of how environmental conservation initiatives function at the local level.

San Salvador, El Salvador

Eleven alumni across El Salvador convened for a Humphrey Alumni Global Policy Dialogue on “Innovation for Economic Development” in San Salvador. The event featured alumni- led panels where they discussed main challenges the country’s economy is facing and innovative ideas to enhance economic growth. Keynote speakers included Humphrey alumna and Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexandra Hill and U.S. Ambassador William H. Duncan, who emphasized the importance of academic exchanges in strengthening U.S. – El Salvador ties and underlined a commitment to promoting education for economic growth and societal resilience in El Salvador.

Manila, Philippines

Over 65 Humphrey alumni from ASEAN and the Pacific Islands gathered for a Humphrey Alumni Global Policy Dialogue on “Diversifying Economic Prosperity” in Manila. The participants discussed challenges and solutions focused on sustainable economies, the role of education and technology in economic development, financial inclusion of vulnerable sectors, and policies that enable and sustain growing economies in the region.

Montevideo, Uruguay

 

17 alumni attended the Humphrey Alumni Global Policy Dialogue hosted by the Fulbright Commission in Montevideo. The event featured alumni-led discussions on human challenges in education, drug prevention, journalism, and urban and regional planning. It was also an opportunity for alumni to reconnect and establish new networks for future cooperation.

Brasilia, Brazil

39 Humphrey alumni from across Brazil convened in Brasilia for a Global Policy Dialogue to discuss topics such as public health, climate change, preventing and combating corruption, and human rights.  The event was an opportunity to renew and establish new networks among Humphrey alumni and foster US-Brazil collaboration.

Cairo, Egypt

Over 50 Alumni attended the Binational Fulbright Commission in Egypt convened at the Egypt Sustainability Conference: Economic Development, Climate Change and Public Health. The event showcased the contributions and critical value of alumni in addressing Egypt’s national agenda and 2030 vision.

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

25 Humphrey Alumni from 12 countries came together for a Humphrey Alumni Global Policy Dialogue in Tanzania to address the challenge of food insecurity within their own countries and throughout the region. The event featured alumni-led discussions that focused on promoting food security and resilient food systems in Africa through climate-smart agriculture, sustainable natural resources management, improved market access, and women’s empowerment in community climate action.

Islamabad, Pakistan

Over 90 Humphrey Alumni from Pakistan came together for a Humphrey Alumni Global Policy Series on “Combatting Climate Change: Finding a Broad-Based Remedy for the Future” in Islamabad. Humphrey alumni discussed climate change in relation to disaster resilience, education, forced displacement, refugee assistance, media disinformation, human rights, and more.

Kathmandu, Nepal

More than 20 Humphrey alumni came together for a Humphrey Fellowship Alumni Global Policy Series on “Post – COVID Economy of Nepal: Challenges and Remedies” at the Bi-National Fulbright Commission in Maharajgunj in Nepal. Humphrey alumni shared insights from the finance, education, and tourism sectors while brainstorming scalable solutions that could be achieved through cross-collaboration in critical policy fields.

Belgrade, Serbia

Twenty-six Humphrey alumni from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Slovenia came together for the first Humphrey Alumni Global Policy Dialogue in Belgrade, Serbia. The gathering focused on critical challenges facing the region: disinformation, economic development, education, and public health.
